FOR SEWING:
I can come to you to teach you son or daughter while you are present and learning too. I will ask you to have a list of certain items for your class and teach the basics of the machine including safety, ergonomics while sewing, and basic technics such as sewing a seam, making a corner, and how to iron. In a 2 hour class, we will make a simple cushion cover for a 10" cushion.
FOR KNITTING:
I can come to you, you to me, or meet anywhere you like in public. Minimum 2 hours per lesson. For children, their hands must have the dexterity to hold and manipulate the needles and yarn reasonably well so I suggest around 5 or 6. They will learn to make a basic knit and purl stitch, how to do a basic knit cast on and cast off. I will stay until they are sure of themselves. I will also direct everyone to videos online with good descriptions of how to do these basic stitches and explain why they are good. I will also describe how to tell if a video is not worth the time to watch it!
FOR CROCHET:
Much like for knitting, I can come to you or you to me, or we meet in public. Minimum 2 hours per lesson and I will stay with you until you have a good grasp of the basics of crochet. The stitches are much simpler yet the results can be so exotic and marvelous.
THERE IS A LONG AND WONDERFUL HISTORY OF MEN WHO DO ALL THREE OF THESE ART/CRAFT FORMS. SEWING GOES BACK TO THE DAWN OF TIME. KNITTING GOES BACK TO AT LEAST THE TIME OF THE PHAROAHS. AND DURING WW1, THE MEN IN THE TRENCHES USUALLY KNIT THEIR OWN SOCKS WHILE THEY WAITED FOR THE NEXT BATTLE TO BEGIN. THEY CAME FROM THE KNITTING GUILDS AND BROUGHT THEIR NEEDLES WITH THEM WHEN THEY WENT TO THE FRONT. CROCHET IS KNOWN TO HAVE EXISTED AS LONG AS THERE HAVE BEEN FISHING NETS. IT'S BASICALLY WHAT THEY ARE MADE FROM. SO MEN AND BOYS HAVE BEEN SEWING, KNITTING, AND CROCHETING FOR A VERY LONG TIME. TODAY, THERE ARE VERY MANY MEN WHO DO ALL THREE AND SOME HAVE BECOME FAMOUS FOR THEIR WORK, HAVE BECOME DESIGNERS, AND PUBLISHED BOOKS WITH THEIR DESIGNS.
So I hope you will join me in my love for these wonderful forms of creativity. Please call or text me at 403-281-7651 or
